If there’s a trek which epitomizes the sublime beauty of the Himalayas, then it is the Goechala Trek. Nestled in the heart of Sikkim, this trek is an uphill battle for those who would love to stand face-to-face with towering peaks, in the Kanchenjunga range, India’s highest mountain and third-highest mountain in the world.
Goechala trek is not a mere adventure but a sojourn for greatness. The treacherous valleys, laced rhododendrons, calm alpine meadows gradually give way to fantastic vantage views, which throw the great splendor of Kanchenjunga against a celestial stage. Beyond this panorama lies an experience rooted in the history and culture of local traditions of Himalayas as much for the body as it soars for the soul.

Samiti Lake: A Sacred Gem
The still, turquoise waters of Samiti Lake, reflecting the surrounding peaks, give an impression of spiritual serenity. The locals believe this to be a blessed lake with an ethereal beauty it carries that leaves every traveler dazed.
The Landscape and Ecosystem Diversity
This trek takes you through diverse landscapes in lush temperate forests to very stark, barren high-altitude ones. It reveals, contrasted in stark yet beautiful hues, the Himalayan ecosystem.
A Cultural Expedition
Passing through quaint villages like Yuksom, the trek immerses you in the rich culture of Sikkim, with its Buddhist monasteries, prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and warm, welcoming locals.
Mythology and Legends of Goechala
The Himalayas are often called the Abode of the Gods, and Goechala is no exception. Local legends say that the region around Kanchenjunga is blessed by deities who protect its pristine beauty.
This sacred place is the Kanchenjunga Range, which the Lepchas call Dzongri, because it is believed to serve as a spiritual guardian which maintains the balance and order of this region.
Through Dzongri you trek which, according to myths is considered a sacred meadow of meditative monks, who used this as a ground to connect higher planes of consciousness.
The place Samiti Lake is abode of purity, to which people often perform some rituals in honor of the sanctity.
